A touch of the macabre

A WARRINGTON student theatre company brought more than a touch of the macabre to their latest production.
Priestley College’s Respiration Theatre Company used a cast of 20 to perform an adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, a story of black magic, mischief and mayhem that depicts a group of doctors as they sell their souls to Satan.
The story written in the 1590’s is based on the historical persona of Johannes Faustus, a disreputable astrologer living in Germany who having studied all there was in the conventional world, turned his attentions to the devil.
The piece of ensemble theatre was just the latest from Respiration who also recently performed an adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Pyramid Arts Centre.
Tutor Abbie Rippon said: “I was really proud of the students who have used Respiration Theatre as a means to enrich their studies this year.
“A number of actors who took part are not taking creative courses such as Performing Arts at Priestley, making their experience even more special.”
