Students shortlisted for awards

TWO former students from Warrington were shortlisted for prizes at an Oscar-style awards night
Megan Tyler and Michael Turner, who both left Priestley College last summer, were shortlisted for prizes at the North West Learner Awards.
They were invited to the ceremony held at The Mere Golf and Country Club, where guest of honour was former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq and compere was former ITN newsreader Fiona Armstrong.
Megan is now reading Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and during her two years at Priestley obtained five AS-Level, A grades and four A-Level, A grades. She was the highest performing student nationally in Geology and was in the top five national candidates for Biology.
Michael originally completed a BTEC National Certificate in ICT and also re-sat his GCSE English at Priestley. He later completed an A-Level in Business and an AS in Citizenship, despite suffering from Aspergers Syndrome. He has gone on to study a Mechanical Engineering course at St Helens College.
Megan and Michael were nominated in the categories of FE Award (Academic) and FE Award (Vocational) respectively, and were highly commended by judges.
College principal Michael Southworth, said: “It was marvellous for two of our former students to enjoy a moment in the spotlight on the back of their outstanding academic achievements.
“The evening was a real celebration of all that is good about education in the North West and we were naturally delighted that both Megan and Michael were nominated from Priestley.”
