Business chief slams sexist TV advert

A WARRINGTON businessman has slammed a television advert for being “sexist” and putting people’s lives at risk.
Paul Clark, owner of oven-valeting firm Ovenu, said the advert for cleaning product Oven Pride could put homeowners at “serious risk of injury.”
The controversial Oven Pride advert has already provoked over 700 complaints for its tag line “so easy a man could do it.”
But Paul has another concern.
He said: “It is the blatant lack of suitable protective clothing worn and the irresponsible use of a dangerous caustic product that should see this advert removed immediately.”
He has written to the Advertising Standards Authority demanding the advert be removed.
He said: “Forgetting all the media hype centred around the ‘sexist’ issues of the advert, it has been allowed to air with a flagrant disregard for the health and safety of people using this DIY product.”
He said the product’s safety advice sheet says users should wear full-length oven gloves, overalls, apron and boots with a full face visor. But in the advert, the character shows no awareness of the product’s potential danger and has no protection for his eyes.
Paul said: “Whether the intended users of Oven Pride are male or female they should be actively encouraged to think of their own safety. Having spent years in the oven cleaning industry I am well positioned to highlight the dangers of using caustic based products, something that I have never done.
“What’s wrong with blokes cleaning an oven anyway? – I have developed a successful business cleaning them!”

  1. Come on – isn't this just about a small local oven valeting firm getting some free PR over a tongue-in-cheek marketing ploy from another oven firm?
