A NEW child development centre is to be officially opened at Warrington this week by Curtis Jobling – designer of the BAFTA award winning show Bob the Builder.
“The Pebbles’ at Sandy Lane, Orford, will officially open on Friday (June 12) at 1pm.
Warrington Community Service Unit’s new purpose-built child development centre is co-located with a children’s centre, nursery and primary school, and provides integrated assessment and services for children with disabilities and long term conditions. This includes community paediatrics, learning disability nursing, occupational therapy and

physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and audiology services.
Having grown up in Warrington, children’s author and illustrator Curtis Jobling is not only the designer behind everyone’s favorite builder, but creator of Frankenstein’s Cat, now a hit animated TV series. His early work in animation included model and puppet painting on Wallace and Gromit’s A Close Shave and Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks!
Guests will be invited to take a tour of the brand new facilities at the centre before the official opening ceremony takes place, which will feature a performance from St Stephen’s Catholic Primary School choir.
The winner of “The Pebbles” picture competition, Olivia Hill, aged four, will be presented with a prize as the new logo she designed is unveiled.
Curtis will also show the children his animations and demonstrate how he draws his famous characters.
Wolfie, the Warrington Wolves mascot will be in attendance.
Carole Hugall, chief operating officer at Warrington Community Services Unit said: “This new building brings together a wide range of services all under one roof, placing children and their families at the heart of healthcare, while we continue to work closely with local children’s agencies.
“We’re very grateful to Curtis Jobling for opening the centre and making this such a special occasion for everyone involved. I’d also like to thank our NHS partners who came together to provide funding for this innovative new facility, and our local authority partners on the Sandy Lane site who have supported us along the way.”
