Help needed to save local landmark

TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington are seeking partners to help in a major project to safeguard the long term future of local landmark Walton Hall.
Work has started on a masterplan of investment and improvement of the hall and estate which, it is hoped, will enhance the range of on site leisure activities.
The council is looking to work with other partners, operators and organisations to help draw up sympathetic plans for the future.
Ultimate aim is to secure the long term sustainability and preservation of the historic buildings and grounds for the benefit of the local community.
Public access to the estate will be safeguarded.
The estate and golf course cover 196 acres and includes the historic hall, now used as a conference and function centre, formal gardens and parkland.
There is also the 18 hole 6,800 yard (par 72) golf course and clubhouse, a range of estate outbuildings, the children’s zoo, play area and other outdoor leisure facilities.
Contributions are particularly encouraged from local or regional organisations and partners and expressions of interests are invited by July 17.
Last year, the council revealed a vision for the future of Walton Hall which included a hotel, conference and exhibition centre, training, education and biodiversity centre, sculpture park and outdoor events venue. But it accepted that the authority did not have the necessary resources and would need to work with agencies such as English Heritage, Visit Chester and Cheshire and the North West Development Agency, as well as attract private sector investors.
Walton Hall was built in the 1830s by the Greenall brewing family. It was acquired by the council together with its grounds in 1941.
