PEOPLE in Warrington will be flying the flag for the country’s first ever Armed Forces Day on Saturday June 27.
Councillors, community groups, business and the public are expected to join in the celebrations and fly official Armed Forces Day flags to honour Britain’s Armed Forces – past, present and future.
The specially designed flags, based on the Union flag, will be raised in ceremonies across the country at 10.30am on Monday June 22. This will mark the beginning of a week of events leading up to the official day.
The flags will also be flown where British servicemen and women are serving overseas, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Cyprus, Germany, Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands.
Veterans Minister Kevan Jones said: “Every day, the men and women of our Armed Forces make personal sacrifices for us, a sacrifice often shared with their families. Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the whole country to show their appreciation of what our service personnel have done and continue to do.”
Armed Forces Day flags, which measure 5ft by 3ft, are available to order until this Friday, June 5. They cost £10 and orders can be placed at www.piggotts.co.uk or by emailing [email protected].

Great idea.
Is it possible that some old-fashioned points of view are making a come-back?? I hope so. There isn’t enough recognition for those who lay their lives on the line.
I can imagine a rash of meetings taking place all over the country when the PC brigade find out. Tough, it’s about time that we started taking “our” world back.
