WARRINGTON’S “Look of the Borough” project is winning praise from local residents – and resulting in hundreds of environmental improvements and highway works being carried out.
The scheme – which involves targeted work carried out by special teams dealing with environmental improvement, gully cleansing and pothole repairs – is being rolled-out across the borough.
It started in Woolston in January, moved on to Culcheth and Glazebury in March and to Croft in May, spending seven weeks in each area.
So far, details are available only of the Woolston project but reports on each area covered will be presented to borough council scrutiny chiefs as they become available.
Local residents and parish council are consulted to identify priority schemes and at Croft a special consultation meeting was attended by more than 60 villagers.
In Woolston, 1,286 carriageway gullies were cleaned – work which would otherwise not have been done at that time.
In addition, 21 footpath gullies received a full cleansing treatment for the first time.
At the same time, the A57 Manchester Road was treated – work which required full traffic management procedures.
A total of 557 pothole repairs were carried out.
Four environmental improvement schemes were carried out at Woolston Park and another five along Manchester Road.
Paula Darlington, the council’s head of environmental management, said: “There have been some very positive comments received by officers from both residents and local members.”
