SUPERMARKET customers in Warrington are being asked to nominate a “local charity of the year.”
Sainsbury’s want to create more than 500 partnerships across the country to mark their 140th birthday celebrations – and Warrington Council for Voluntary Service is calling on the community to nominate their Grassroots Endowment Challenge.
Nigel Bacon, CVS chief executive said: “Customers are being invited to choose a charity through nomination boxes at the front of Sainsburys’ stores.
The Warrington Grassroots Endowment Challenge is eligible for match-funding from the Government which means that any fundraising carried out by Sainsburys’ could be doubled for the Warrington community.”
Grassroots Grants of up to £5000 are available to any community group within the Warrington area with an income of less than £30,000. Since its launch last September, the scheme has benefited more than 40 organisations.
Mr Bacon said: “Warrington is full of small groups and individuals who work tirelessly to tackle local problems and this fund is dedicated to supporting their efforts.
“Grassroots Grants is exciting as it provides help direct to community groups now and into the future. That is why we are urging the community to get businesses such as Sainsburys’ involved in the future of their community by contributing to the Warrington Grassroots Endowment Challenge.
“Every penny that goes into the fund will return a much greater value, for example, a £1000 will receive match funding from the Government and then we can also claim Gift Aid making that £1000 worth £2560 to the fund.”
