A PLAY based on a bizarre true story of a Liverpool soccer fan who watched the 2005 European Cup Final sitting next to Italy’s Prime Minister, is coming to Warrington.
Written by Radio Four playwright John Graham Davies, Beating Berlusconi is based on the story of Liverpool fan Kenny, a key cutter from Allerton, who watched the match sitting next to Berlusconi.
Despite threats from his wife and bank manager middle-aged Kenny travels to Istanbul to watch Liverpool play AC Milan in the final.
And what happens to Kenny in the Attaturk stadium is stranger than fiction.
The play stars Paul Duckworth, who played Jack Michaelson in Brookside and Ringo in the film Backbeat.
Beating Berlusconi is described as “the hilarious story of one man’s attempt to rediscover his belief in himself, his club, his city and his class.”
The show is on Saturday June 6 at the Pyramid from 7.30pm. Tickets priced £9 and £7 are available from the box office on 01925 442345.
