New police chief takes over

CHESHIRE Police have announced the appointment of a new police chief in the Warrington area.
Insp Gary McIntyre has taken over the reins in the Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit, succeeding Insp Sarah Edgar. He will be based at Stockton Heath.
Insp McIntyre, who joined Cheshire Police in 1994, brings a wealth of experience to the role.
Before joining the team at Warrington South he worked as an inspector on the Targeted Patrol Team (TPT) in the Warrington and Halton areas.
He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the new inspector at Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit. I will use all my skills and experience to continue and enhance the excellent work that has been carried out by Insp Sarah Edgar and the team.
“I am looking forward to getting to know the local community and getting to grips with the issues that are affecting them. I want local residents to play an active part in policing the area and influencing local priorities. I want to work together with residents – and our partners – to address any issues or concerns.”
Insp McIntyre joined the force as a Police Constable 15 years ago and in that time has worked in a variety of roles across the county.
These include working as a detective in CID and as a member of the Pro-active Policing Team in the Eastern area, which includes Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe. In these roles he focused on burglary, vehicle crime and drug related offences.
In 2002 he went on a secondment to the National Crime Squad, which targets serious and organised crime.
He was promoted to Detective Sergeant and returned to Cheshire and later joined FMIT – the Force Major Investigation Team – as a Detective Sergeant and worked on murder enquiries across the force and on covert operations.
Last year he was officially promoted to inspector.
He added: “I am in the process of meeting local people and I look forward to working with them. I want residents to feel they can talk to me and my team directly about any issues or concerns they might have. Only by working together can we discuss those issues and come up with the best ways of dealing with them.”
Insp Edgar has moved on to a specialised crime role at Cheshire Police’s headquarters in Winsford.

  1. I am disappointed that Sarah Edgar is leaving, as she has done an excellent job. I wish her all the best and continued success in her new role.

Also I would like to say welcome to our new Inspector. and look forward to working with him in the Community.

I do wonder whether Warrington South is just a training ground for the police, as they don’t seem to stop very long.
