Mini industrial estate thrown out

PLANNING bosses have thrown out proposals to convert two barns into offices after hearing of concerns that it would create a “mini industrial estate.”
Members of the borough council’s development control committee refused permission for the development at Hollingreave Farm, in Dam Lane, Rixton.
Officers recommended the scheme be approved.
But there were strong objections from local councillors who argued that the development was an inappropriate use of Green Belt land and would create a “mini industrial estate.”
They feared the scheme would lead to traffic problems, with unacceptable levels of traffic on a road that was nothing more than a farm track.
They did not believe the scheme would benefit the local economy, nor nearby residents.
Officers said the proposals would not cause any detriment to highway safety, that parking arrangements were satisfactory and that the buildings are well screened.
They pointed out the proposal was for offices – not industrial use.
But the committee rejected the scheme.
