Students solve real life problems

TWO teams of committed Warrington students who have spent the last six months working on solutions to real life engineering problems visited the University of Liverpool to celebrate their achievements.
One of the teams from Priestley College has worked closely with BNFL and was charged with designing a method for removing radioactive waste from long term storage tanks at the Sellafield Nuclear Plant.
The other worked with Morgan Professional Services and investigated different types of low carbon technology available and had to decide which ones would be most energy efficient in a college environment.
The projects were completed as part of the Engineering Education Scheme which invites talented students who are interested in related careers to join forces with local companies to solve a real life problem.
The students presented their findings at Liverpool and were subsequently rewarded with certificates for their efforts.
College Tutor Alan Durbin said: “The Priestley teams came through this year’s EES with much distinction, receiving praise from the adjudicators for their efforts throughout.
“The scheme is the ideal way to learn about engineering in a real life setting and also helped them with teamwork, timekeeping and report writing skills.”
