House of Lords debate for pupils

SIXTEEN gifted youngsters from Warrington took part in a national debating final at the House of Lords.
The Year 10 pupils from Padgate High School had battled through five rounds of the competition to reach the final as the sole representatives of the North.
The team defended the view that “Stop and Search” initiatives should cover all parts of the UK and not just certain areas, in a bid to prevent further knife crime.
Gifted and talented co-ordinator Ms John-Lewis said: “This type of event not only offers an exceptional opportunity for our students, it also contributes to their education and development of skills.
“It challenges each individual to engage with social issues, form an opinion and be able to work as part of a team in order to defend that opinion and make a positive contribution. These are all qualities that the school endeavours to instil in all of our learners.”
