STUDENTS at Warrington were invited to seek advice and guidance from a number of professional practitioners during a Health Promotion Day on campus.
The teenagers from Priestley College were able to find out about issues relating to sexual health, sexually transmitted infections, substance misuse and the dangers associated with excessive tanning.
Present were representatives of the Terence Higgins Trust who answered questions in the strictest confidence based on many aspects of sexual health.
Elsewhere, Gill Bent, from the local NHS Stop Smoking Service offered encouragement and support to students looking at kicking the habit and shocked them with a range of props, which included a jar full of tar to represent what was taken into the lungs by a regular smoker and the startling fact that a 20-a-day habit costs, on average, £177 a month.
Fran Evans, head of Student Services, commented: “It is always useful for our students to be able to speak with local health practitioners. With many of these delicate subjects, young people are often afraid to seek guidance, so bringing the organisations onto campus often helps the situation.”
