Charlie's not such a novice

A LYMM schoolboy is making a name for himself in the kart racing world – and promoting a local charity as well.
Charlie Green, 15, is in his first full outdoor season of karting, with races every month, following a year racing at the indoor Daytona track in Manchester.
He collected his first trophy at Easter.
Charlie now has his own kart, which he maintains himself to save money despite having secured some sponsorship to assist in what is an expensive sport.
After visiting the Children’s Adventure Farm at Millington, the Lymm High School pupil was so impressed with what the charity was doing that he offered to promote it.
His kart and trailer now proudly display the charity’s logo.
Proud dad Roger said: “While Charlie has his Motor Sports Association competition licence, he has to complete five races without upsetting any stewards before he gets upgraded from being classed as a novice.
“In his first two races he started at the back of the grid but managed to finish in the middle of the field.
“On Easter weekend he finished 12th, ahead of all other novices and several seasoned racers to take the Novice Trophy.
” With regular testing sessions, he hopes he can improve greatly over the rest of the season but we are trying hard to find more sponsorship to fund this.”
Charlie’s main interest apart from racing is tinkering with the kart, completely rebuilding it prior to any practice session or race. He also loves putting bicycles together from different parts to produce exactly the spec he wants.
Dad joked: “I think all this practicality was sparked off when I bought him a Meccano set a few years ago!”
