Showman gets a permanent home

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for a member of a well-known family of travelling showmen to site a permanent mobile home on land in the borough.
Great Sankey Parish Council had opposed Michael Wallis’ application to set up home on the site of Liverpool Road.
They feared the rear part of the site could also be used for storage of fairground equipment.
But a near neighbour supported Mr Wallis’ application and the parish council withdrew its objection after receiving reassurances.
The site already had permission for the winter storage of three caravans.
Planning officers recommended the application be granted as the proposal met an identified need – that of providing a home for a travelling showperson and family – and would not cause any overlooking nor loss of privacy for nearby residents.
The Wallis family has been associated with travelling fairs in the Warrington area for many years.
