Man threatens to jump in river

TRAFFIC was held up when a man threatened to jump into the River Mersey at Warrington.
Police and fire crews with a rescue boat went to the scene at Kingsway Bridge last night (Tuesday) as the man threatened to throw himself into the water.
Officers talked to the man – who had been drinking – and eventually persuaded him to get down from the bridge parapet. He was then detained for his own safety.
Fire crews kept in the background and were not required to launch their boat.
