Warning over rogue trader

TRADING Standards chiefs have issued a warning about a trader calling at homes at Warrington offering to drop kerbs on the highway.
The trader is not accredited by the borough council, even though he did produce some form of identification and gave the impression he was “approved.”
Work carried out by the man has been costly – and has also found to be of a poor standard.
In some cases it presents a hazard to pedestrians.
As a result the council has had to reinstate the kerb to its original condition.
A spokesman said: “If you want your kerb dropped or any advice, check with the council’s highways section on 01925 442512. Traders must have streetworks accreditation and householders need to be clear that kerbs are part of the highway, not part of their property.
The advice from Trading Standards is that householders should not agree to have any work done by traders that cold call.
“If you are approached by a cold caller offering to drop kerbs please let us know,” he added. Call Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 or visit the website www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
