Students face degree options challenge

HIGH flying Year 12 students from across Warrington have been learning of the challenges facing them as they look for potential degree options.
The youngsters are considering applying for subjects such as Medicine and Law at leading institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge.
Students from Appleton, Penketh and Lymm high schools joined forces with Priestley College’s students in a celebration of sixth form education in the town and were given a unique insight into the challenges lying ahead.
The group was able to listen to a presentation by Vincent Lister, a third year undergraduate student from Cambridge University before breaking up into smaller groups with a focus on specific subject choices.
Among the group were Tom Harman and Alex Thewsey, current second-year students at Priestley who have already been offered places to study at Cambridge this summer.
Mel Jackson, a senior tutor at Priestley said: “It was excellent for some of the town’s most gifted sixth-formers to come together and share information and opinions with their peers at the same time.
“The young people who attended really want to make the most of the very exciting opportunities the lie ahead for them in further education and we are more than happy to do all we can to support them.”
