THE weather was, quite remarkably, good for the start of the local cricket season – but the Warrington areas two sides in division one of the Chapel Press Cheshire County League both got off to disappointing starts.
Warrington were beaten by 45 runs at Bramhall, where the home sdie batted first and totalled 218-8 declared in 50 overs. Warrington made a positive reply but as wickets fell their challenge faded and the last wicket fell with 173 on the board after 47 overs.
Warrington 2nd fared no better, going down by six wickets to Oulton Park at Walton Lea.
Batting first, Warrington reached 182-9 in 50 overs – a target which did not trouble the visitors who finished on 184-4 after 41 overs.
Grappenhall, newly promoted to division one, travelled to Poyton where they were dismissed for 169 in 47 overs.
The home side cantered to victory with 173-3 in 46 overs.
Warrington area teams in the Meller Braggins Cheshire League and the Cheshire Cricket Alliance start their campaigns this weekend.
