WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has given her backing to a new plan to deliver first class cardiac and vascular health across England.
The MP is supporting the launch of ‘Destination 2020’ a report by the Cardio and Vascular Coalition (CVC) outlining how the government should approach the fight against cardiac and vascular disease over the next decade.
In the North West an estimated 304,000 people have coronary heart disease and an estimated 154,000 people suffer a stroke. There is also an estimated 309,000 of people living with diabetes.
In the area covered by NHS North West there are an estimated 477,000 people with chronic kidney disease – stages 3-5.
Ms Jones said: “Cardiac and vascular diseases are the leading cause of death in this country. With an ageing and increasingly overweight population there will be new pressures on the health service.
“It is crucial that we have a renewed plan so that we can deliver first class response to the health challenges in the years ahead.”
The CVC is a group of 41 organisations representing patients, charities, doctors and nurses with an interest in promoting and protecting cardiac and vascular health in England.
