Is phone mast too near airfield?

PLANS for a mobile phone mast at Warrington have resulted in massive opposition – including claims that the 12.3 metres high structure could affect aircraft using a nearby airstrip.
More than 140 nearby residents have lodged objections to the Vodafone proposal on a grass verge off Moss Gate, Birchwood.
Opposition has also come from Birchwood Town

Council.
The application is due to be heard by Warrington’s development control committee next week.
Planning officers are recommending the application be approved but accept that it is a residential area, with the nearest dwelling about 30 metres from the site.
The mast would be similar in appearance to street lamps in the area, although slightly taller.
The Town Council says the mast would a detrimental impact on the visual amenity of the surrounding area, namely Risley Moss, which is a site of special scientific interest, and Birchwood Forest Park.
They point out the area is mainly green space and argue that Vodafone had not fully explored the scope for alternative sites.
The council also argues the mast could have an impact on wildlife at Risley Moss and in the Forest Park.
There are children’s play areas nearby.
The council says the applicants have answered “no” when asked if the structure would be within three km of an airfield. But in fact, a planning applications was recently approved for a private airstrip at Martinscroft and query if this is within 3km as the crow flies.
Nearby residents object on the grounds of health, unnecessary risks to children, the height of the apparatus and the proximity of houses.
