Music raises £1,600 for hospice

AN evening of music at St Wilfrid’s Church, Grappenhall raised more than £1,600 for a children’s hospice.
It was organised by 21-year-old fashion design student Lucy Royle, of Grappenhall as a tribute to her cousin, Jacob Ellison, who sadly died last year.
The music was provided by close friends of Lucy and covered a wide range of music styles.
Among these was a performance by flautist Zara Jealous, who was Warrington Young Musician of the Year in 2004.
The money goes to Claire House Children’s Hospice, on the Wirral, which cares for many young people from the local area.
Lucy said: “I wanted to promote the fantastic work of the hospice to the people of my local community and raise funds to help future children enjoy the opportunities and quality of life that Jacob experienced.
“The support for the cause was overwhelming and I am still in shock as to the sheer amount of people who were in the audience.”
Lucy is studying fashion design at Leeds University but is currently on an industrial placement as a design assistant at Reebok in Manchester.
She said: “Having been involved with music for many years throughout school and college, I saw the concert as a great opportunity to bring some friends of mine back together to raise money.”
Performers included Zara Jealous, Kate Wilkinson, Rachel Lowe, Adam Atkins, Cody Coyne, Jane Dennis, Kim Warren, Amy Mepham, Vicky Woof, Claire Warren and, of course, Lucy herself.
