Help fight climate change – council

TOWN Hall chiefs have joined forces with the Energy Saving Trust to offer Warrington residents free, impartial advice on how to cut CO2 emissions, fight climate change and reduce energy bills.
The Trust – a not-for-profit organisation funded by the Government, have written to a number of homes in the borough to take part in an energy efficiency survey.
Its part of the UK’s drive to reduce its carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 to help slow down the damaging effects of climate

change.
The survey aims to gather information about the way local residents use energy in their homes and will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
People who complete and send off the questionnaire will receive a free home energy report on their home, showing its current and potential energy rating. It will also give simple tips to cut energy bills by up to £300 each year.
Coun Alan Litton, the council’s executive member for environment services said: “We would encourage every resident who has received a letter about the survey to take part. Only by working together can we make a real difference to the environment and, by taking part in the survey, residents will be helping us deal with climate change more effectively.”
People who have not received a letter inviting them to take part in the survey can still contact the Energy Saving Trust advice centre free on 0800 512 012 for advice on how to make their homes greener.
Steve Lang, Energy Saving Trust advice centre manager said: “Climate change affects us all. If we all made one small change, it would make a big difference. Our advisors are here to make it easy for you to make those simple changes and take the first steps towards choosing a low carbon lifestyle.”
The council has developed a climate change strategy which sets out how it intends to reduce emissions and how it will help the community to do the same. More details are available from Dave Watson, principal environmental health officer on 01925 442590.
A range of advice and support on energy efficiency can be obtained from the eco hut in Warrington Market or by calling 01925 657763.
