Paper recycling bins contaminated

FLY-tipping has forced council chiefs to decide to remove paper recycling bins from two sites in Warrington.
The bins at the Asda recycling site at Westbrook and on the Davies Way car park at Lymm will soon disappear.
The problem is that some residents have repeatedly contaminated the bins by placing non-paper and non-recyclable items in them.
Once

the bin has been contaminated in this way, its contents can no longer be recycled. Instead they have to be sent to landfill which is a more expensive and less environment-friendly method of disposal.
Coun Alan Litton, the borough council’s executive member for environment services said: “The recycling team has worked closely with the enforcement team and the local community over the last few months to try and resolve this issue. Recycling bins are all clearly marked to show residents which type of item can be placed in each bin for recycling.
“Unfortunately, some residents have ignored pleas to recycle their household waste in the correct manner and have continued to contaminate the paper recycling bins. This leaves the council with no alternative but to remove these bins.
“Residents are reminded that papers and magazines can be recycled in the new blue recycling bin. Alternative facilities are also provided at our three Community Recycling Centres at Gatewarth, Woolston and Stockton Heath.”
