Poster puts spotlight on domestic abuse

A POSTER highlighting the effects of domestic abuse has been unveiled in Warrington.
The glossy print, produced by the Warrington Domestic Abuse Forum, went on show at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
It is hoped the poster, which will be displayed around the concourse underneath the stands throughout the season, will help to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the support services that are available for the whole family.
Rachel Zammit, domestic violence strategic co-ordinator for the Safer Warrington Partnership, said: “The Warrington Domestic Abuse Forum is happy to be working in partnership with Warrington Wolves in a bid to raise awareness of domestic abuse and local support services that are available.
“Warrington Wolves have a huge local following and it is hoped that the promotion of the poster at the Halliwell Jones Stadium will help to send out the message to a wide and diverse audience that no-one in Warrington has to suffer domestic abuse in silence.
“Many people still think of domestic abuse as only being about physical violence but it can also be psychological, sexual, financial and emotional.
“It is also important to increase understanding that the abuse can be actual or threatened and at any stage of a relationship. It may happen every so often or on a regular basis – but it is still domestic abuse and does not need to be tolerated.”
The poster aims to show that domestic abuse can happen to anyone and in all kinds of relationships – and that it does not just affect individuals but the whole family as well.
Rachel added: “Hopefully, the combined efforts of the Warrington Domestic Abuse Forum and Warrington Wolves will help get the message out there and encourage anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse to get help.”
Wolves’ forward Ben Westwood said: “The Wolves are 100 per cent behind this campaign. Hopefully our support will help to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the support networks available for victims.”
