New quiz on pay-and-display

A MAJOR public consultation exercise is to be launched prior to setting up a new pay-and-display car park to serve a busy village shopping centre.
If – as expected – the scheme is approved, pay-and-display could start on the currently free Pepper Street car park at Lymm in about three months time.
The first two hours will be free, there will be a

£2.10 charge for up to four hours and longer periods will cost £10. Free parking will be allowed after 6.30pm and on Sundays.
Plans to introduce similar charges on the village’s other two car parks, at Davies Way and Henry Street, will not go ahead for the time being.
Borough council chiefs will monitor the impact of the changes at Pepper Street before deciding if charging should be extended to the other car parks.
Lymm Parish Council is supporting the scheme although originally it had backed local traders who wanted pay-and-display on all the car parks.
Borough council spokesman David Boyer told the parish council that a consultation already carried out had shown a majority of people supported pay-and-display at Pepper Street but not on the other car parks.
As a result a pilot scheme would be tried at Pepper Street
“If it doesn’t work it could be extended to either or both of the other car parks,” he said..
Recycling units would be moved from Pepper Street to make more room and the borough was also looking for an alternative site for the recycling units on the Davies Way car park. It was hoped to increase the number of parking spaces at Davies Way.
Mr Bower said Pepper Street car park would be named and signposted as “Lymm Short Stay Shoppers Car Park.”
