Bid to end illegal taxi rank parking

0

LICENSING bosses are being asked to approve a tough new enforcement policy to try and end illegal parking on taxi ranks in Warrington.
Space for taxis in the town centre is very limited – and is reduced still further by other vehicles park on

designated ranks.
In addition, Hackney Carriage licence holders are making the problem worse by sometimes leaving their vehicles on ranks while they go shopping, etc.
It is a criminal offence to park any vehicle other than a taxi on a taxi rank and also to leave a taxi unattended.
The borough council’s licensing committee is being asked to that a warning be issued for a first offence but that subsequent offences result in prosecuting.
If a licensed taxi driver commits repeat offences, the committee would have to decide whether the offender was a suitable person to continue to hold a taxi licence.
