THE number of university students choosing nursing programmes locally has soared with the latest figures showing that nursing is now one of the top-five subject choices.
This year, those opting for Nursing Diplomas at the University of Chester – including the Warrington campus – have soared by 33.91 per cent, or 214 applicants, while Nursing degree applications have risen by 49, a 7.84 per cent increase on last year.
The rise follows the national trend with this year’s statistics showing an increase of 15.8 per cent, or 7,424 applicants, for degree programmes and an increase of 15.1 per cent, or 5,389 applicants for Nursing Diplomas.
Professor Mike Thomas, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Care, said: “Students are now becoming more aware of a university degree which leads to a career in nursing, providing an exciting and rewarding career option.”
