A CAR was abandoned on a pub car park near Warrington and then set alight.
Minutes earlier it had been used by two youths for racing another car up and down a nearby lane.
The car, a four-year-old Renault Megane, was found ablaze on the car park at the Ferry Tavern at Fiddler’s Ferry.
Fire crews raced to the scene but the vehicle was completely burned out when they got there.
Police are investigating reports that the car was seen racing with another car up and down the lane leading to the Fiddler’s Ferry Yacht Haven.
The other car was seen leaving the area at speed shortly after the fire was discovered at around 6.30pm last night (Monday).
In a separate incident, a motor scooter was set alight on land at the rear of Cossack Avenue at Orford, Warrington.
Three youths had been seen racing the machine around local roads shortly before the incident in the early hours of today. The scooter was completely destroyed.
