ROMANCE was in the air at Warrington’s Bank Quay station when new “kiss me quick” and “linger for longer” signs were unveiled as part of Red Nose Day activities.
Virgin Trains teamed up with paperback publishers Mills and Boon to give rail passengers a day of fun and…kissing!
The new signs replaced the “kissing” and “no kissing” signs recently removed after a worldwide controversy.
They encourage customers being delivered to the station by car to say their slow goodbyes in an area a little way from the congestion at the front of the station.
The day began with a symbolic kiss between local Mills and Boon author Annie Burrows, from Padgate and Virgin’s director of communications, Arthur Leathley, confirming that, far from banning kissing, Virgin positively encourages it – among willing participants!
Other delights on offer during the morning, all set to a background of soft romantic music, included the opportunity to sit in a decorated kissing seat, be photographed with a paperback hero, pay for a peck with a star look-a-like (pictured) etc.
Meanwhile, the original “no kissing” signs were offered for auction on ebay and had reached £546 by the cut-off time. It is believed the successful bidder was from Warrington..
Many other Red Nose activities went on across Warrington.
At Culcheth Primary School there was an exciting netball game between parents and teachers (pictured below) – but it is not clear if this led to more red faces than red noses!
