New council shock for residents

HUNDREDS of Warrington residents were shocked to receive a newsletter informing them they had a new council.
The newsletter dropped through letter boxes at Lymm bearing the greeting: “Welcome to your new council.”
It came from the new, Macclesfield-based Cheshire East Unitary Council, which takes over from Cheshire County Council and the former Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe and Nantwich borough councils on April 1.
Warrington Borough Council leader Coun Ian Marks said: “It is ridiculous. We have complained to Cheshire East about it because it causes confusion.
“No doubt there are parts of Warrington that Cheshire East would like – but they can’t have them!”
A spokesman for Cheshire East apologised for the confusion.
The newsletter had been delivered by Royal Mail and the new council was now working with them to remedy the situation where the publication had inadvertently been sent outside the authority area.
He added: “We provided Royal Mail with a comprehensive list of postcodes where Cheshire East News should be delivered. However, we have become aware that some copies have been delivered outside of the Cheshire East Council administrative area.
“Royal Mail are now taking urgent action to rectify this and ensure all future distribution is confined to Cheshire East.”
The boundary between Warrington and Chester East is in the High Legh area.
Some residents of Lymm are well used to similar blunders.
Copies of neighbouring Trafford Council’s newsletter, also delivered by Royal Mail, are regularly delivered in Lymm because of confusion over post codes.
