A WARRINGTON student faced her fears and took a tandem sky dive to raise funds for charity.
Stephanie Jenkinson, 21, from the Warrington campus of the University of Chester, took the 14,000-feet dive at a centre in Cockerham, Lancashire.
She attracted sponsorship and students set up fundraising stalls at the Warrington and Chester campuses, to raise a total of £350.
Money will go to a St Helens-based charity Helen Marie Friends, which was set up by Marjorie and Arthur Hurst to support sick children after their daughter, Helen, died of a brain tumour at the age of 12.
Stephanie (pictured) said: “I think it’s great to raise money for a local cause. I’ve met Marjorie and Arthur, and they’re fantastic people, so I’ve been delighted to help.”
Students Stephanie, Lucy Jackson and Hannah Burton, formed a group of advertising students who developed the idea for a fund-raising sky-dive. It was part of a project management module in which they were asked to plan an event in aid of a good cause.
Although there was no requirement for the students to go through with the event, Stephanie and her group chose to go ahead and help the charity.
She said: “At first, we were thinking about planning a bungee jump but then we saw something about doing a sky-dive for charity, and thought that was perfect. I thought it would be a great idea to actually go ahead and do the sky-dive itself, and it was great – a real adrenaline rush.”
