A PLUCKY woman fought off a teenage thug who tried to steal her handbag at Warrington.
The 40-year-old was punched in the face and knocked to the ground – but refused to let go of her bag.
Eventually the offender ran off – abandoning his bike.
The attack took place in the pedestrian tunnel near the Knutsford Road swing bridge at Latchford at about 8.30pm on Thursday March 5, but police have only just released details.
The woman was walking through the tunnel when the offender, aged 16-18, rode up to her on a red bike and grabbed her bag. She refused to let go and he got off the bike and punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground.
But she still would not let go of the bag and the youth ran off over the swing bridge.
He was about 5ft 5 inches tall, of medium build with short, dyed blond hair. He was wearing a yellow top and either black or blue jeans.
Police are appealing for witnesses or to anyone who may recognise the youth from his description or who may have seen him either riding the red bike or running away from the scene.
Anyone who can help should call DS Gordon Wilson on 01244 615842 or call the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
