Planners to rule on poultry shed

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to be asked to decide whether a poultry shed built without permission can stay in place.
The shed has been built on land off Well Lane, Penketh and has prompted protests from two neighbours and members of Penketh Parish Council.
Members of the borough’s development control committee have visited the site to see it for themselves before reaching a decision.
Planning officers – who are recommending the proposal be approved – say while the shed is in a residential nature, it is screened by trees.
It is to be used for hobby purposes, rather than on a commercial basis.
Neighbours say the 30ft long, nine ft high building is too big. They argue that the site is unsightly, resembling a building site.
They are also concerned about tree felling that has taken place.
Although the applicant has kept chickens on the site for some years without causing any complaint, geese were present recently and made a lot of noise, the neighbours complain.
There are also concerns that rare, imported birds may be kept on the site.
The applicant says he does not intend to import rare birds and will tidy up the site when construction work has been completed.
