Young people well above average

SERVICES for children and young people at Warrington perform well above the national average and deliver continuous improvements at a faster rate compared with the majority of other councils, according to the Audit Commission.
The Commission’s latest Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) show the services have maintained their excellent rating since 2005, regularly appearing in the top rankings for high performing youth services.
The Commission says education performance, including GCSE results, continue to improve at a faster rate than the national trend.
Warrington pupils are among the best in the country when it comes to exam results with outstanding results at key stages 2 and 3 and the best ever GCSE and A Level results. These excellent exam results are giving young people the opportunity to go on to further education and giving them a vital head start when competing for jobs.
Norma Cadwallader (pictured), the borough council’s strategic director, children’s services directorate, said: “The outlook for young people in Warrington is very positive at the moment.
“The government’s Building Schools for the Future programme has prioritised Warrington in their national top ten for investment and proposes to invest £80m initially to rebuild and modernise local secondary schools. This investment will deliver huge benefits for education and also the wider local economy.”
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, executive member for children’s services, said: “We are extremely proud of our excellent rating which shows how we continue to deliver quality services for local children and young people, giving them the best start for a happy and successful life.”
