A PLAN to convert a shop previously used by a meat wholesaler into a hot food takeaway has caused a storm of protest.
The property is in a row of four commercial properties in Martin Avenue, Warrington – two of which are already takeaway food shops.
Local councillor Steve Roberts has lodged an objection on the grounds that a further takeaway would be “excessive and four objections have been received from nearby residents, together with a protest petition signed by 59 people.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved but say the development control committee may wish to attach some weight to the possible impact of a clustering of similar uses.
But they believe a further takeaway will not have serious adverse impact, subject to appropriate conditions.
They believe the majority of customers visiting the shop would be on foot, due to the proximity of a large residential area.

I think they are wrong, if you cluster three fast food shops together you are more likely to travel there from out of the area because of the additional choice. I don’t live in the area, but I know it; and have sympathy for the immeadiate residents who will see an increase in traffic for this otherwise enclosed residential area, already I’m planning to visit when its complete…in my car as its too far to walk. surely a more suitable place would be capesthorn road which services the same residential area…and my advice to the business owners too, since they are not going to get passing trade there certainly not as much as on capethorn.
