World Cup coach to join Wolves

WARRINGTON Wolves will announce today that Tony Smith, the England World Cup coach, is to join the club as coaching director.
He will work alongside head coach Jimmy Lowes – and the pair will be in joint charge for Sunday’s home game against his former club Leeds Rhinos.
Wolves’ owner Simon Moran and chief executive Andy Gatcliffe only approached Smith last night and the Aussie, who is under contract with the Rugby Football League to take charge of England in the Four Nations tournament at the end of the year, accepted immediately.
But he has said he wants Lowes retained in a senior coaching role.
He will sign a two year deal and will combine the post with that of England’s head coach.
Smith guided Leeds to the Grand Final in 2006.
It is understood Lowes is happy to work under Smith.
Ironically, he was due to be his assistant at the World Cup but turned down the job to give his full attention to Warrington.
The new appointment comes after Warrington have lost their first three games of the season.
