MP in bid to stop profiteering

A WARRINGTON MP is asking her constituents if any of them have had problems with heating contractors used by the Government-back Warmfront initiative.
Helen Jones, MP for Warrington North, says she has been approached by a number of people who say they have found they get cheaper quotes from contractors who are not tied to Warmfront.
She said: “I am very concerned that some contractors are, apparently, using their links with Warmfront to overcharge people.”
Warmfront is a Government funded initiative to help people makes their homes warmer, healthier and more energy efficient.
It provides a package of insulation and heating grants up to the value of £2,700 – or £4,000 if oil central heating is recommended – to people who are home-owners or rent their homes from private landlords.
The MP said: “I have had a number of constituents contact me saying that cheaper quotes can often be obtained from contractors who are not tied to Warmfront.
“I am very concerned that some contractors are, apparently, using their links with Warmfront to overcharge people.
“It is also important that Government grants are used properly and most effectively and any suggestion of ‘profiteering’ needs to be addressed.
“Therefore I am asking people to contact me with any examples they have of problems with Warmfront sub-contractors.
“I want to be able to take examples to the Minister responsible so that we can address this problem.”
