THE exclusive warrington-worldwide story about “kissing” and “no kissing” zones at Warrington’s Bank Quay station has gone global.
Originally published on this website at 7am on Saturday (February 14), the story surfaced in the regional and national 
press and on TV on Monday and yesterday (Tuesday).
Subsequently it appeared on websites across the world – and Colin Daniels, chief executive of Warrington Chamber of Commerce has even been interviewed for Polish television.
He said: “The majority of the media don’t seem to realise it was all a bit of fun. But on the assumption that there is no such thing as bad publicity, the story has resulted in the name of Warrington being spread across the world.
Bank Quay is believed to be the only railway station in the UK to have the signs.
They originated in America and were given to Warrington Chamber of Commerce 11 years ago.
They have been erected as part of a £1 million facelift for the station.
The “no kissing” sign is displayed next to the taxi rank – the idea being to discourage people from holding up traffic with lengthy “goodbyes” – while the “kissing” sign is next to the long stay car park.
Contrary to some reports, the signs have no standing in law and are not to be taken too seriously. There will be no “penalty” for couples who choose to ignore them.
