Council to tidy up mystery path

TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington have agreed to step in and tidy up a footpath after failing to discover who owns it.
The unadopted path runs from Malpas Drive, Great Sankey, through to Hood Lane, near to The Rose public house.
Nearby residents, who use it as a shortcut to shops at Hood Manor and other local facilities such as a mother and toddler group, complaint about its litter-strewn state.
Sankey South ward councillor Jim Regan and the borough council have tried to trace the owner – but even an approach to the Land Registry has failed to find out who the land belongs to.
Coun Regan said: “The path has become something of an eyesore and we tried to find the owner to persuade him to tidy it up.
“But we can’t trace him.
“I asked the council to clean it up and they have agreed to do so as a ‘one-off’ and also to spray it with weed killer during the growing season. That should help ensure it stays in a reasonable condition.
“Some people find the path a useful shortcut but it is not very nice for mothers with prams too have to walk through all the litter.”
