PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for the demolition of an old barn despite objections from local people who claimed it formed part of the “gateway” to a village.
Members of the borough council’s development committee approved the scheme – which involves replacing the barn with a two-storey garage and car port – at Pinfold Barn, in Lymm Road, Thelwall.
They reached their decision after visiting the site to see what impact the changes would have.
Pinfold Barn itself was recently converted into a two-storey dwelling, in line with planning consent given nearly six years ago.
The new consent allows the adjoining Dutch barn to be demolished and replaced with the garage and car port.
Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council lodged objections on the grounds the site was a “gateway to the village” and the agricultural appearance of the barn should be preserved.
They claimed the garage and car port would not be sympathetic to the surroundings nor to the Green Belt and conservation area.

How selfish and petty can people get?
“a gateway to the village”? If that is the best excuse the Parish Council can come up with, they should be doing something else.
Well done WBC. for showing some common sense!
