Three escape house fire

THREE people escaped unhurt at Warrington early today when fire broke out in the kitchen while they were watching television.
The blaze was at a house in McKee Avenue, Longford shortly before 2.30am.
A cooker was completely

destroyed and the whole house was heavily smokelogged.
Fire crews tackled the blaze and used a ventilation unit to clear smoke from the property.
A Fire Service spokesman said the occupier had gone out leaving three young people in the house – and forgetting that food was cooking in the oven.
When the oven burst into flames, a smoke alarm activated and alerted the three youngsters who raised the alarm. No-one was hurt.
The spokesman added: “The lesson to be learned from this is that you don’t leave food in the oven and also that ovens need to be cleaned regularly. In this case accumulated grease contributed to the problem.”
