DETECTIVES at Warrington are hunting cheeky car thieves who stole a car from under its owner’s nose.
The victim of the audacious theft was loading goods into the boot of his Land Rover Freelander when the offenders pulled up behind, one jumped into the silver Land Rover and drove off with the thieves’ car following
Although the offence took place on January 15, police have only just released details – and the Land Rover has not been seen since.
The theft took place in Knutsford Road, Grappenhall, outside the Spring Brook pub at about 3.20pm..
A 56-year-old man was loading goods into the Land Rover, which had its rear door open. A black car pulled up behind, a man jumped out of the front passenger seat and got into the Land Rover, driving off towards Warrington at speed and with the rear door still open.
The black car followed.
Police say the Land Rover, which had a registration number with a DA prefix, has not been seen since.
The man who drove it away was about 5ft 11 inches tall, was pale and gaunt with short black hair and was wearing a black hooded jacket.
It is believed there was a third man, with curly brown hair, in the rear of the black car.
Police want to talk to anyone who saw the incident, or saw a Land Rover travelling at speed with the rear door open or who may have seen a similar vehicle since January 15.
Anyone who can help is asked to call DC Alex Reeves on 0845 458 0000 or the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
