A WARRINGTON-based group which supports victims of rape, sexual assault or harassment has won a £10,000 grant to expand its work.
The Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre has been awarded the money by Learning Together Cheshire and Warrington, under its community grants scheme.
It will cover the costs of setting up a number of supportive workshop sessions exploring the experiences women have endured and helping them to develop strategies for change.
Julie Evans, operations manager for the centre said: “We are delighted to have secured funding to enable us to deliver confidence building sources across Cheshire.
“The courses will give people the opportunity to increase their self esteem and confidence.”
Chris Baker, chief officer of Learning Together Cheshire and Warrington said: “We have been fortunate to secure this funding to benefit the local voluntary sector.
“It is a great opportunity to develop imaginative ways of making contact and working with a range of disadvantaged groups in the community to improve their quality of life.
“This project is another example of the way voluntary organisations are able to reach people who often have difficulties in accessing the services they need.”
The centre was established in Warrington in 1995.
Grants under the community grant scheme are likely to continue until next year and organisations can win sums of up to £12,000.
