PROJECTS ranging from a Lewis Carroll centre to a community garden are among those in Warrington benefiting from the latest WREN funding.
This brings the total number of projects supported by the group in Warrington and Halton last year to 22, totalling more than £648,000 in grants.
The latest grants include £25,000 towards the Lewis Carroll Interpretation Centre at All Saints Church, Daresbury. Money will go towards a £650,000 project to construct an extension to the church to house a dedicated Lewis Carroll centre.
An £8,000 grant has also gone to Glazebury Community Venue Improvements at Glazebury Methodist Church, towards modernisation of the church hall kitchen and provision of an outdoor play surface.
Other beneficiaries include The Grange Community Family Area at The Grange Sports and Social Club, Latchford. The £40,109 will help provide a new toddler and junior play area available for use by the community.
Dallam benefits from funding of £50,000. Money, applied for by the borough council and community, will go to create a community garden in the centre of the district.
A grant of £46,585 was also given towards the final phase of refurbishment at Orford Youth and Community Centre.
The money is generated by Waste Recycling Group Ltd landfill operations throughout the UK via the Landfill Communities Fund. Projects applying for grants from WREN need to be within 10 miles of a landfill site and are assessed locally, by a panel of experts.
Project manager Richard Smith said: “We are able to fund a wide variety of community projects from play areas and skate parks to village halls and all communities in Warrington are able to apply.
“I am hopeful that good applications demonstrating community need and support will continue to come in during 2009 and have dedicated additional time to assisting groups in the area.”
The next deadline for applications to WREN is March 18 and staff are happy to give advice to community groups. Further information is available from www.wren.org.ukor on 01953 717165.
