COUNCILLORS are to consider making a donation towards the cost of roof repairs at St Thomas’ Church, Stockton Heath – after hearing how the church has increased its work in the community.
The Vicar, the Rev Michael Ridley, has written to the parish council asking for a donation towards the repairs. The project is expected to cost £264,000 and the church has a £200,000 grant – so needs to raise the remainder.
Coun Liz Jewkes said the church should be supported. The matter should be looked at the end of the financial year to see what balance was left for donations.
“The church has started doing a lot more for the community, with coffee mornings and drop-in sessions,” she said.
Members heard a grant of £500 had already been earmarked towards planned floodlighting at the church.
The new request was referred to the next meeting of the finance committee.
