Revellers chose taxis

LATE night revellers preferred taxis to buses over the festive season, Stockton Heath Parish Council was told.
Police Community Support Officer Peter Crellin told the council: “According to police the bus was not as successful as in previous years.
“Taxis were still used a lot and we ended up policing the taxi ranks. More people used the taxis than the bus.”
The parish council gave £280 towards the cost of the bus service which operated into the early hours for seven nights over Christmas and was intended to minimise late night disturbances by moving people swiftly in and out of the town
Overall, however, police were “quite pleased” with crime levels in Stockton Heath over the festive season.
PCSO Crellin said from December 12 to January 11, there was one burglary and one theft from a motor vehicle.
During the period, which included Christmas and New Year, there were four assaults and two public order offences.
