Town end losing streak

WARRINGTON Town ended a five game losing streak with a battling 1-1 draw at promotion chasing Skelmersdale.
Town handed a starting debut to recent signing Jamie Henders up front but it was the home side who started the brighter, the first chance falling to midfielder Aaron Turner, who blasted high over the bar in the 5th minute. Town’s goalkeeper Ritchie Mottram was soon in action, to deny lively midfielder Sean McConville.
Town’s first chance fell to midfielder Dave Tickle, who blasted his shot wide. The game continued in a similar pattern with the home side pressing forward but cunable to find a way through due to excellent defending and goalkeeping by Mottram. Town began to get back into the game, and Chris Gahgan looked the most likely to score, seeing a shot blast across the face of former Town goalkeeper Ryan McMahon’s goal.
Against the general run of play, Town took the lead in the 35th minute, Gahgan blasting into the roof of the net after a mistake in the home defence and good work from striker Carl Rendell. But the lead lasted for barely a minute, as McConville was left unmarked to glance a header home passed Mottram. The rest of the first half was played in the midfield area.
The second half began as the first half ended, with the game being played in the midfield third of the pitch, very few chances being created by either side, any chances being snuffed out by excellent defending. Mottram was called into action to deny McConville once again. The home side should have taken the lead a minute later, but prolific striker George Donnelly could only blast wide of the target, and strike partner Mark Houghton saw his cross go across the face of the goal. Town were soon to introduce their second debutant of the day with Chris Amadi, replacing Henders up front. Skelmersdale should have grabbed a winner late on but stalwart defender Chris Fitzsimmons was on hand to head the ball off the line to maintain the scoreline. The last chance of the game fell to Kevin Towey, after Amadi forced McMahon to misskick and Towey saw his lob fall onto the roof of the net with McMahon beaten.

Pictures show leading scorer Chris Gagham opening the scoring and celebrating his goal.
