WHEN a Warrington Mason was presented with a long service certificate he knew what it would look like – because he had designed the commemorative certificate.
Alan Griffiths received the special certificate signed by the Provincial Grand Master to mark his 50th anniversary of becoming a Freemason.
His computer skills were just one his talents highlighted at a St Oswald Lodge No 5170 meeting at Warrington Masonic Hall. It took place on the exact day and date of him becoming a Freemason 50 years ago.
Alan, of Chester Road, Stockton Heath, is only the second member to have celebrated 50 years of continuous membership of the Lodge. He is in good company for the other was the former Lord Daresbury who went on to become Provincial Grand Master of Munster.
Assistant Provincial Grand Master Dennis Rudd said he was not at all surprised to see so many Brethren in attendance for the special occasion. He was delighted to pay tribute to a man who had done so much for his Lodge, the Warrington and District Group of Lodges and the Province of West Lancashire.
Alan’s roles have included being director of ceremonies for 23 years and helping other lodges. His work was recognised by the United Grand Lodge of England where he holds the high rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. Before retirement Alan was an insurance surveyor and was a founder member of Warrington Insurance Institute. He was organist and choirmaster at St James Church, Warrington, for more than 20 years.
